Wedding Ceremony/Reception

Christopher + Mitchell

We met like how most the gay do, on the apps—back when we were in college, swiping through profiles like hopeful detectives. I (Chris) popped up, and Mitch and I had a couple of dates, fun, flirty, with just enough awkward charm. But then, Chris dropped a bomb on Mitch: he was heading abroad for six months, volunteering and solo traveling. And much to Mitch's chagrin, the tall charming badger vanished.<3Like all good star crossed lovers, life seemed to find a way at getting us back into each others lives. We both ended up in DC, and while dating other people, had a few run-ins, which always made us wonder 'what if?'. It was not until COVID that there was an opportunity to see it through where we were both single and back in Minneapolis. Our first date was a COVID-walk on the Stone Arch Bridge, and it was after that date, Chris knew he would win Mitch over, and that he did.<3To Mitch’s family, Chris was the mysterious and elusive “med student”, and would take on nicknames 'the med-man', 'the med-mystery', eventually the Perry family nickname set as 'the meddler'. Chris finally won over Mitch's heart after a secret night at Mitch's cabin prior to his family joining where he brought a bouquet of flowers to be left for Mitch's family with a card signed “The Meddler".<3Five years, countless trips, and many states later, San Francisco being our latest home, we knew we were always meant to be. We both secretly planned to propose on that same bridge as our first date. Funny enough, Chris went first, three days ahead, without knowing Mitch was going to do the same. And so, with all our family and friends cheering us on, the Meddler became the fiance and soon to be, husband!<3*Pictured above: Mitch and Chris on a trip to Duluth a few months into dating*

Wedding Party

Lodging and Travel

Our goal was to make our wedding weekend convenient for those flying in out of state. Our events and hotel blocks are all within walking distant (or a very short drive from one another). While public transit is limited, we would encourage use of ride-share apps (Uber/Lyft) whenever needed. If given group size/accessibility you should need a car, the venue has free parking.

Transportation

In the heart of downtown Minneapolis the Hewing offers a industrial-rustic aesthetic that incorporates Minnesota's cultural touches. The Hewing is a place near and dear to our heart as it was where we celebrated both match day and the evening after we got engaged. Equipped with a rooftop bar, hot tub, and beautiful views of the skyline it will keep you entertained. The Hewing is ~1 mile from the venue & welcome ceremony making it an easy ride-share or walk away and it's just blocks from the best bars and restaurants Minnesota has to offer. The wedding couple and party will be staying here, and we encourage those interested in joining us for evening activities to reserve at the Hewing. RESERVE ROOMS HERE or call 651-468-0534 & request the 'Perry Johns Room Block' *Of note the hewing has valet parking, we recommend avoiding car rentals to avoid additional fees* *When using the room block link, make sure the dates are updated in order to reflect all available rooms*

Hewing Hotel

Here are some additional, budget-friendly options for friends and family. Rates listed below may not be accurate at time of your search. We'd advise using Tripadvisor or Hotels.com for most competitive pricing. Should you chose to find your own hotel in downtown Minneapolis a good rule of thumb is places closer to the Mississippi will tend to be near more activities, and walkable. Radisson Red: Located just a block from the Guthrie (Minneapolis's premiere performing arms center) and a few steps from the stone arch bridge, with reasonable rates (currently $242/night), while still within <1 miles of all of our events. TownePlace Suites by Marriott: Located in Northloop (the trendy industrial-chic neighborhood), this extended stay hotel will give you the most bang for you buck with current rates at $168/night and less then a mile from all of our events. AirBnB: Neighborhoods we recommend for home rentals...Northeast: Just north of the venue site, lots of single family homes, easy drive to all events.Marcy Homes/Como: Just east of our venue, near U of MN campus. Food/Dining

$$Borough + Parlour Bar: American dining, just blocks from the Hewing, they are sister restuarants from the same company. Parlour is the basement bar with our favorite burger in the city, does walk-ins. Borough, right above Parlour, also has the famous burger and a whole slew of delicious American food.

$$$Spoon & Stable: For our foodies out there, Spoon & Stable is one of our favorite 'nice' restaurants. It includes all American food with a rotating menu (although the black squid spaghetti is always available and a favorite of ours). Would require reservation.

$Kramarczuk's Sausage Company: A traditional polish delish within walking distance of Nicollet Island Inn. Great spot for sandwiches and baked goods.

$Alma Cafe: Within walking distance of Nicollet Island Inn this upscale cafe has some of the best baked goods you'll find in Minneapolis (any one of Chris's favorite places to study while in medical school).

$$Hai Hai: Located in the trendy neighborhood Northeast, Hai Hai is quality asian fusion, you can't go wrong with any dish. Both Mitch and Chris agree it has the best brussel sprouts of the Twin Cities. Would require transport to get too, and parking is readily available on site.

For something convenient and inexpensive there are two adult 'food courts' that don't require reservations with a variety of food options and easy to find seating for large groups.$Graze: In walking distance of the Hewing$Malcolm Yards: Near UMN, parking on-site

Pair your walk with Isles Buns where you can get a delicious cinnamon bun the size of your child. Mississippi River Walk: Just feet from either of our hotel blocks is the Mississippi River which sports outstanding walkways for miles in either direction. If you're looking for a couple mile loop you should use the stone arch bridge (where we got engaged!) and the Hennepin Ave bridge (spotted by the large grain belt sign) are crossing points. Relevant spots include Nicollet Island (where our venue is located), St. Anthony Main (brick road street with beautiful apartments) the Guthrie Theater (our preforming arts center with large suspension bridge thats free to access to the public), and Mill City Museum (ruins of an old flour factor that is now a history museum).

Minneapolis Sculpture Garden: Know famously for the giant spoon-and-cherry piece, the sculpture garden hosts a number of pieces from local artists, some you can climb on! Right next door is the Walker Contemporary Art Center which will keep you busy all day.
